Notice and Info - 20/11/2024Kindai University and Starlite presented research results on "water hydrostatic bearings (non-contact bearings)" in joint names.

The results of a collaborative research with Kindai University on "water hydrostatic bearings (non-contact bearings)" were presented at the 2024 annual conference of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (held from September 8 to 11, 2024 by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers).

Contents of Joint Research

Starlite works with Kindai University to research water hydrostatic bearings that use water as a lubricating fluid, which has a smaller impact on the environment than oil. Water hydrostatic bearings can support rotating shaft without contact by supplying high-pressure fluid from an external source, thus reducing the generation of wear debris from the rotating shaft and bearing in manufacturing machinery.

Contents of Presentation

We built a static characteristic testing machine to measure the load capacity for eccentricity ratio of air bearings "hydrostatic gas bearing with axial directed slot restrictors (made of resin)", which were jointly developed in the preceding research. We presented the test results of the load capacity based on the difference between the gap of the slot, which affects bearing performance, and the bearing clearance.

Our Vision

We believe we can apply the research results into designing actual water hydrostatic bearings. We will contribute to reducing the maintenance load by improving the cleanliness of manufacturing machinery and by extending their service life.
