Notice and Info - 28/10/2024Emergency toilet donated to Salesian International School Setagaya Junior and Senior High School. — For learning about disaster management and raising awareness about toilet-related issues in times of disaster.
Starlite donated an emergency toilet to Salesian International School Setagaya Junior and Senior High School. This is in response to the increasingly serious toilet-related issues in disaster-stricken areas due to the recent surge in natural disasters, and aims to promote disaster management learning at the school and the use of the utility hole toilets installed on the school grounds.
Cooperation between Salesian International School Setagaya Junior and Senior High School and Starlite on disaster management activities
Through disaster management activities, students pursue inquiry-based learning with the important theme of "Think about toilet-related issues in times of disaster". When visiting the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, students heard from local people that "the biggest problem after March 11 was toilets", and as part of the disaster management learning, they have deepened their thinking about the toilet-related issues in times of disaster and have been aiming to contribute more to society.
The social studies class teacher in charge of this activity says that "I want to make learning about disaster management enjoyable, so that students will be more aware of disaster management in their daily lives", and promotes practical learning through classes and workshops. The school has also set the theme for 2023 as "Think about future emergency toilets 10 years from now!", and the students have been deepening their learning while actively connecting with society, for example by presenting the ideas they have come up with in teams at the SDGs Week EXPO 2023.
After agreeing with their activities, Starlite began an exchange with the school in 2019. Since then, we have been working together on efforts aimed at raising awareness of disaster management and providing educational support for young people who will lead the next generation.
Donation ceremony and emergency drills
The donation ceremony was conducted as part of the school's evacuation drill. At a hallway that displays our emergency toilet, Starlite posted a sign asking students "What can we do to get people to use this toilet in the event of a disaster?" as part of disaster awareness, and received a lot of comments and ideas. It was a good opportunity for students to further raise their awareness about toilet-related issues in times of disaster and think about how they can utilize the toilet in real situations by presenting their own ideas.
Starlite's beliefs
Starlite collaborates with schools and local communities, aiming to solve issues related to disaster management, while sharing and learning from each other as we work towards the same goal. Through the "project to protect lives with safe toilets", we will continue to work with society as a whole on toilet-related issues in times of disaster and provide a safe and secure environment.
