Notice and Info - 24/11/2023Kindai University and Starlite presented research results on hydrostatic gas bearings (non-contact bearings)" in joint names at the 2023 annual conference of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers.
"Hydrostatic gas bearings (non-contact bearings)" that use "air" as the lubricating fluid in clean environments can support rotating shaft without contact by supplying compressed air from an external source, thus reducing the generation of wear debris from the rotating shaft and bearing in manufacturing machinery.
We introduced the following two results at the conference.
Assessment of dynamic characteristics of hydrostatic gas bearing with axial directed slot restrictor (jointly developed product/made of resin)
A hydrostatic gas bearing with axial directed slot restrictor and a hydrostatic gas bearing with circumferential directed slot restrictor (existing product) were used to measure load capacity while a test shaft was rotating and to assess the effect of shaft rotation on the load capacity. The results showed that the axial directed type (developed product) has larger load capacity than the circumferential directed type (existing product), and shaft runout during shaft rotation was reduced.
Measurement of pressure distribution of shaft surface of hydrostatic gas bearing with axial directed slot restrictor (jointly developed product/made of resin)
The effect of shaft eccentricity of a hydrostatic gas bearing with axial directed slot restrictor on the pressure distribution of the shaft surface was assessed. The results showed that the experiment value and the CAE analysis value were almost identical, confirming the precision of the CAE analysis is sufficient.
We will apply the research results into designing for practical hydrostatic gas bearings, and contribute to reducing the maintenance load by improving the cleanliness of food production lines and other manufacturing machinery and by extending their service life.
