Starlite’s Ritto Plant received the “National Award for Greenery Factory - the Chairperson’s Award of the Japan Greenery R&D Center” on January 27, 2023.

Our Ritto Plant’s symbolic trees “Sophora japonica var. pendula (Shidare Enju)” were grafted onto “Sophora japonica (Enju)” when the plant was opened. Today, we have 86 trees and the white flowers of these auspicious trees adorn the tree-lined street stretching across the plant during the rainy season. Local residents can now also enjoy the seasonal scenery along the Konze River, which flows nearby, with sakura (cherry blossoms) in spring and the autumn colors of metasequoia trees in autumn. The planting and growth of these trees is carefully managed by local people, from pruning and trimming according to the species, to the use of fungicides on pine trees and sakura (cherry) trees.

In plant operations, the output adjustment and maintenance management are carried out under the solar power monitoring of the photovoltaic power generation system on the roof. In addition, all businesses are involved in initiatives to realize a low-carbon society by promoting energy conservation of plant facilities and shifting the peak power demand of production equipment.

The connections with the local communities that started with the opening of the plant extended not only to landscape maintenance, but also to the operation of a driving school in the past, and more recently to the display of paintings by students from nearby elemental schools and summer festivals. After renovating our cafeteria, we are also holding various workshops focusing on natural environments, local production for local consumption, recycling, etc. We will continue to nurture local ties through initiatives aimed at 'building disaster-resilient sites with the whole community.’
